I have had 2 diskectomies, a laminectomy, and laminotomy right next to each other in my lower lumbar from
2 surgeries. I was also 300 lbs about 8 years ago when I first started seeing Coryn Autore for PT from the
first surgery.
In those years, I have lost just about 100 lbs, and can now exercise for more than 2 hours straight, and
can hold a plank for almost 5 minutes. That is not to mention the range of motion and flexibility I enjoy
now too. She helped me fix how I walked, manage steps, exercise properly, lift over my head,
stand/sit/squat/lay down, and how to get that sickening joint ripping noise and discomfort to go away in
all my joints. It has involved some pain, a lot of discomfort, and even more determination to keep going.
All of it — completely worth every second. I would have lost the commitment to keep going several times,
had I not put Coryn and other like-minded friends in my life to keep me positive and encourage me. It
has been a little less than a year now since my last surgery, and I am already bicycling 20+ miles twice a
week, performing acro-yoga, juggling with the circus, crawling around tight spaces for my job, and picking
up my 100+ lb kids without any pain or excessive muscle fatigue.
My surgeons said there was a good
chance I would not be able to do half of that anymore because the disks would fuse. I guess being able
to put my feet behind my head again wasn't even a consideration. I owe her my mobility and
livelihood, something I cannot ever fully repay her for. Get with her when you're ready to change your life
for the better! The only thing you will regret, is if you don't follow through with it!
Four years ago I was sent to a big physical therapy place near us to help me with severe pain
running down my leg. It felt like a thick barbed rod that was heated red-hot being
ripped out through my skin. The pain was crippling. The big physical therapy place tried
traction, which instantly put the pain through the roof. They did not understand what was going
on, and the therapist backed away from me hands in the air saying over and over again. "I
don't understand I don't understand" while I tried to suppress the screams and tears.
Needless to say, I lost faith in them.
My daughter is friends with Coryn and arranged for her to see me. The first visit she did some
things to relieve the pain and I got days pain free. It was like a little miracle. I started
seeing her regularly even though it was more than an hours drive for me, and the twice a week
visits and her exercises were the only things that toned down or eliminated the pain. One time
I could not make the walk between the car and the building. I just had to stand in the parking lot
and cry, taking a few steps at a time in agony. I finally made it into the building bawling (if
you knew me, you would know how out of character this is. I go years between crying).
Forty-five minutes later I walked out pain-free. Coryn is the best at what she does. I had to have
back surgery to fix the mechanical issue. I don't know how I would've got through that
last year without Coryn's expertise, exercises, and hands on help that immediately relieved
so many symptoms. I have recommended her to many other people since.
Other practitioners had given me exercises to do, but they never felt quite
right and didn't seem to help – in fact, often they made things worse. Coryn gave me similar
exercises to try and watched me doing them. She immediately saw that I was missing the strength
in areas that was required to do the exercise correctly, so gave me simpler exercises, that my
body was capable of performing. Once I gained some strength, she altered the exercises
somewhat, so the new movement would be a challenge, yet that I was capable of completing. In
time, under her direction, because she tailored the exercises to fit my needs and abilities,
I was able to do the original exercise correctly (with the correct form) so that it
actually helped.
In addition, I started with a significant issue; a simple muscle spasm in my
back that had been ongoing for 45 years; again Coryn instructed me on a few simple exercises –
always stressing the proper form (things like shoulders down, wrists straight, keeping
my shoulder blades squeezed together) - to strengthen my back and shoulders. The spasm now
only occurs once in a while, and all I need to do to relieve it, is do one or two days of
those exercises, and the pain is gone.
August 2020 I woke up with a sudden severe pain and weakness in my left leg and actually had to walk
with a cane (sciatica).
Tests showed a narrowing of the structures in the spine that contain exiting nerve roots between
L5 and S1. My primary care doctor was certain I would need surgery to relieve the tingling,
numbness and weakness in my left leg.
Coryn provided a comprehensive rehabilitation program of manual therapy, stretching, and
strengthening exercises which gradually improved my symptoms to a manageable state.
Additionally she provided an at home regimen allowed me to manage my symptoms even after I was
able to stop going to physical therapy which I still practice today.
When I 1st needed PT I had plantar fasciitis and neck pain so bad that I could not turn my head
enough to check a blind spot while driving because my neck was so tight and all the wrong muscles
were working. After only 1 week, Coryn had my range of motion in my neck increased by at least 25
percent. And after only a couple of weeks, the shooting pain in my feet was gone. She has worked
with me on numerous injuries and chronic issues with my hyper-mobility and EDS.
My occupation is incredibly hard on my body. 12-hour shifts left me limping and with aches in my
neck, shoulders, back and knees. With Coryn's insightful treatments I believe I avoided going
on disability and leaving a career I loved.
Better alignment and ergonomic movement at work helped me gain the confidence that my body would
be able to tackle new and exciting hobbies like aerial hoop/lyra, acroyoga, circus workouts, dance
and hula-hooping. She helps me modify what I need to my body's condition, so I don't have
to quit doing what I love.
